Looks like WordPress 2.8 will be on schedule to be released on June 10th. Release Candidate 1 (RC1) of WordPress 2.8 is now available for downloads. According to the Official WordPress blog this may be the final RC released before WordPress 2.8 is released.
With Release Candidate 1, we think WordPress 2.8 is ready and complete.
If you are interested in testing out the release candidate or just want to try out WordPress 2.8 before it is finally released, you can download it from here, you can view the complete changelog to see the changes made since Beta 2, don’t forget to take a look at the new features in WordPress 2.8.
Tried installing it on a live blog and it went down, blog pages and admin pages turned blog -I know it’s not recommended to do so and I’m not complaining about it and know how to fix it by just over writing it with 2.7.1 files-, looks like I’ll wait until the stable release to come out.

I have not tried it yet and from Kevin’s comment above, I will wait a bit longer.
Just installed it, works like a charm!
Been running 2.8 on my blog for months and it’s pretty slick.
Upgrading my other blogs to 2.8 RC1 now. 🙂
*is not impressed*
Uploaded and unzipped it to a new install. Got nothing but blank pages.
Tried overwriting with 2.7.1. Got blank pages.
Uninstalled, reinstalled, and upgraded again. Got the message to upgrade the databases before moving onto the admin section, played with the widgets there, then I uploaded and activated a theme. Everything was working fine until I decided to check out the theme search. Now I got fatal errors on every page!
No problems so far 🙂
Got nothing but blank pages after upgrading the database, I’ll wait for the stable release
Stable release there….
