Windows Live Writer and All in One SEO Pack are two really good pieces of softwares available for WordPress users. Windows Live Writer allows users to write and publish blog posts from their desktop, on the other hand All in One SEO pack gives users the ability to optimize the post title for Search engines, and allows users to specify custom keywords and descriptions for the post.
However the two of them do not go hand in hand in the sense that when you post from Windows Live Writer you will still have to go to the WordPress admin dashboard and add the parameters for All in One SEO pack, adding a minor inconvenience to users.
I wrote a plugin called All in One SEO Pack Windows Live Writer Bridge, which aims to bridge this gap, by allowing users to specify All in One SEO Pack details while publishing posts from Windows Live Writer.
This plugin is basically made up of two components, a WordPress plugin which monitors for posts written remotely and a Windows Live Writer plugin that allows users to add All in One SEO parameters.
Once you have installed both of the plugins, you can select Insert –> Add SEO Information and enter the parameters for All in One SEO Pack.
However the only minor caveat in the plugin is that you will have to enter the SEO details in source mode, this is due to the fact that Windows Live Writer does not allow plugins to add Html comments in Edit mode.
Once you have entered the SEO Details, you can publish the post as you would do normally, the WordPress plugin will interpret the information and create the appropriate entries in the database for All in One SEO pack to process.
I will be enhancing this plugin making it much more easier for bloggers to add custom fields while posting through Windows Live Writer, however I hope that the current code is good enough to address a issue, many of WLW and All in One SEO Pack users have faced for a long time.
Please do provide your feedback on whether or not this plugin will be helpful to you and other ideas you want me to improve upon.

Disclaimer: I am the author of this plugin.
I must say that this is one of the best enhancement to both the legendary tools.I hope this will completely eradicate the need to visit WordPress Admin dashboard.
Nice to see that WLW can be expanded to make use of custom fields. That is the only feature I miss with it. I’m with Vbb above – one less reason to visit the WP Admin!
The author must be proud to claim this plugin. Why a ‘Disclaimer’?
Hey, that’s great! I still have a couple of other things that I need to add in WordPress admin, but this makes it much better.
This would be great! I’ve just started a help site for some friends and this would make it ALOT easier for them to get up and running as they have VERY limited knowledge of even what SEO stands for, let alone how important it is. Thanks for providing a great bridge, and I look forward to it’s improvements making it easier to use for them! (I still prefer just using the web-ui but then again, I don’t do much of the blogging 🙂 Thanks for all the work that went into this as well!
Yay…!! It’s look great I heard that. many thanx, finaly I found this plugin. 😀
thanks for the plugin, is there any plugin for Windows Live Writer who generate custom fields ?
thanks
Wow, this is rad. First of all, I didn’t know about All in One SEO. Second, that’s awesome that you’ve bridged this gap for users. I user WLW and I’m going to install your plugins as soon as I get home from work. This sounds awesome and I’m really stoked.
It seems this plugin and/or the integration into Live Writer no longer works. I’ve tried following the directions to the letter, and while it does generate the codes the author mentions, none of that information is transferred to the blog when the article is posted from Live Writer.
Anyone know how to contact the author, or if there is another workaround to this problem? The forum link is broken, and his “contact” page is broken too.
Thanks!
Christopher
@Christopher – There was a problem with the plugin. The AIOSEO had changed their param names. The plugin has now been updated to fix that issue.
Thanks for letting me know Keith. Where can I download the updated version from? The download link in the article (above) give me files that were created in April 2009.
Thanks!
Christopher
You can download it from here http://wordpress.org/extend/pl.....er-bridge/
Awesome, thanks Keith! I really appreciate your quick responses, and even more so for your writing this bridge in the first place. It’s exactly the solution I’ve been searching for.
Sincerely,
Christopher
Hi again Keith. Downloaded and installed the new version, and it only partially works. The only field that gets updated is the SEO Keywords. Both the title and description fields don’t get modified at all.
Any idea why not?
I’m using WLW on WinXP and AIOSEO v1.6.13.1, if that’s any help to you.
Thanks,
Christopher
