WordPress Theme Generator: There used to be some very good ones out there but they seem to have dropped out of favor. This new one offers such conveniences as instant previews, lots of layout, color and gradient settings, custom header graphics and download of individual files as well as a neatly packaged zip. This could be a good starting point for WordPress bloggers who want to play around with colors and layout and do not want to muddy their hands with code. I like the instant gratification and appreciate Yvo’s hard work.
Wow! I can’t believe how simple that generator is to use! It’s a wonderful asset to the WordPress community. Thanks to Yvo… and thanks for posting this info, Mark. 🙂
this is the best tool i have ever seen… thanks for posting it!
Oh por dios, no lo puedo creer, ahora nos quieren quitar el trabajo de diseñadores >_
Wonderful invention! This would help WP bloggers a lot.
Congrats Yvo on a job well done 🙂
Unfortunately they use a javascript standard my antiquated browser doesn’t support. And i won’t be able to upgrade to Mac OSX until this Tuesday at the earliest.
He has basically used the tool provided by Yahoo to build CSS http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/grids/builder/
and transformed it to wordpress code… awesome!
By chance, I came up with my own way to create an entirely new, almost minimalist theme. Put simply, I somehow didn’t FTP up the images folder for my chosen theme, couldn’t figure out why it looked so bare bones, until I checked the logs and spotted all these 404 errors for images. But, by that point, I’d grown quite fond of minimalism and rather than doing the image upload I simply removed the references to the gifs and jpegs from the CSS. Works for me.

Hurray for the Luddites!
great source!
Thanks for the post Mark.
Server is currently dealing with ‘digg’ effect… so site might time out.
That’s really just a style sheet generator, not a theme generator.
It’s a cool tool, but the name is misleading.
This seems handy! Thanks for the generator, great job
That’s pretty nifty – made me smile. Thanks for bringing this to my attention – definitely worth a look.
I added support for a 3rd column / 2nd sidebar: http://www.yvoschaap.com/wpthemegen/ @ “Third Column”.
This is really great to test out different color combinations. Many times this is something can make the difference between a good theme or a great one. Many thinks for sharing your work and helping us to develop better themes.
I created a theme and downloaded the zip file, extracted, uploaded to my themes folder. When I went into the Theme Editor, it came back as a Broken Template, saying that the Stylesheet is missing. I am really new at creating my own themes, but I looked at the list of files in the folder and sure enough, there isn’t a Stylesheet. What did I do wrong?
Wow. Nice work! I know way too much about html/php for a non-developer and this is a very cool tool.
I would have loved to test the tool, but unfortunately the links isn’t working for days, … any chance of a fix?
try http://www.wordpressthemegen.com/
I’ve been using the tool today. I liked it but the website design that comes out of it is somewhat primitive. It’s ok now, was “wow” three years ago but doesn’t exactly match Web 2.0 of 2008.
I’ve try it and it’s amazing generator…
I never know before… after this, I feel easier to make my own themes.
