It looks like I am going to be at Calcutta, India for two weeks around the end of February and would like to get together with WordPress and blogging folks from that region.

March 4th (Saturday) is the tentative date for the meetup and my initial thoughts are to meet at the Park Hotel (on Park Street). I will post updates as and when they develop.

I would like to judge the level of interest. Please leave a comment if you are interested. Also, please link to this post if it would help to get the word out.

[EDIT]: Not sure if people realize this or not, but I am originally from Calcutta, India. My fiance’ and I are going to visit my parents for a couple of weeks and this is more of a pleasure trip than anything business. Any business conducted will be incidental and will have less priority. I am also glad to know that there is such a concentration of bloggers in Mumbai and Chennai. How about independant blog meetups there?

You are welcome to visit Chennai, India too. It’s close to Bangalore also. You’d find a great many bloggers in this part of India.

  2. S.K says:

    I am thrilled!
I am a long time user of WP. I live at Chennai in southern India.
I will try and make it to the Meetup, God willing!

I am looking forward to meet with the great nerdy brains like Mark Gosh πŸ™‚

    Cheers!

    S.K

  3. S.K says:

    Ajay,

Are you at Chennai (FKA Madras)?

    Contact?

    Regards,
    S.K

  4. Navin says:

Hey – I’m in Chennai too, and it’d be brilliant to meet up!

  5. Ajay says:

What about a visit to Mumbai?

  6. Naina Redhu says:

Yeah, why Calcutta? Why not Mumbai? I’d really like to know! Does Calcutta have more blogging folks? [ I’ll be stumped if that’s true! It would be wodnerful of course, but my assumption that the tech cities like Bangalore and Mumbai had more blogging folks will be dashed! ]

I’m in Mumbai and while getting to Calcutta is next to impossible – when you do organize something in Mumbai, I’ll be there. I’ll put the word out on my three WP blogs πŸ™‚

  7. aJ says:

Maybe cos he might have some work there? Maybe some sightseeing there?

  8. aJ says:

I would love to attend it but work pressures at that time would not allow me to travel to Calcutta.
But great to know you will be coming to India πŸ™‚

  9. Srinivasan R says:

I am also from Chennai and I use WordPress 2.0 for my Free Software Blog.
I would be glad if you could come to Chennai.

  10. Abdul Aziz says:

Even I am wondering why you are going to Calcutta. It would have been great if you could drop by in Mumbai for a day or too.

  11. Arun Agrawal says:

    Hi

Finally a comment from someone in Calcutta πŸ˜‰

Yeah! I will be thrilled to meet you. Please pass on your contact details to my email address and it will be pleasure to co-ordinate and catch you there.

I will pass on the information to my other blogger friends also and some of them might love to come along. If there is something I can help you with while you are in Calcutta, please let me know. I will be happy to help.

    Arun

  12. Sthitaprajna says:

Not sure I’ll can make it to a Calcutta meet in March..though I might be 400km away, holidaying at my parents’.. You’ll get a much bigger WP userbase, and blogger concentration for that matter around Bangalore/Chennai/Mumbai. Hope the meet in Calcutta goes well too πŸ™‚

    cheers

  13. Rakesh Ojha says:

Hi I’m in Delhi and would have loved the thought of the meet in delhi. But Alas! will not be able to make it to Calcutta.

Yeah, I am in Chennai (Formerly Madras). Looks like there are a number of bloggers from India. Also there are a number of Ajays here. I do follow Ajay D’Souza’s blog, then there’s another ajay here. We should probably start off a wordpress Chennai group or WordPress India group or Ajay Group πŸ˜›

Of course, the idea of independent blog meets is fantastic. There is already one blog meetup happening in Mumbai on the 31st of January at Cafe Coffee Day at 6 p.m. Bandra, Carter Road. More details here on my blog. I’m going for the Mumbai meetup – would have been nice to meet with you Mark! Maybe some other time!

Have fun at Calcutta and do tell us how it goes.
