eBay Developer Challenge 2006: Write cool, innovative code for eBay Web Services (and promote eBay in the process) and win $5000 plus other goodies. Pretty cool mashup examples provided. These are good times for enterprising and enthusiastic newcomers to jump into the fray headfirst.
Being an old-school eBay Developers Programme member I was quite excited until I realised the contest is only open to citizens of the United States. Argh, do you think I can enter if I pay myself the prize money and pay my own flights & fee to the EmTech conference?
*holding back the tears*
I wanted to get in on this but in trying to develop stuff in java, I found their server response times were horrendous. I would make a request and the response would take on the order of seconds to return. I read some of their forum topics about this sort of thing and their response amounted to “sorry, too bad.”
When competition will be opened not only for citizens of the United States, same not fairly many wish to take part:(
