In keeping with an IE centric co-worker, I would like to request my readers to post their browser usage percentages as comments to this post. All I am looking to understand is the overall percentage of IE users versus Mozilla based browsers. There are some caveats.
- Most statistics fromblog sites are somewhat jaded. I say this with a smiling face because bloggers tend to be more tech savy in most cases and are more prone to using real browsers. For example: this blog has 40% of its hits from Mozilla based browsers.
- Staistics from sites which attract a *lot* of International visitors do not count because International users tend to use IE for the most part. (I might be wrong about that assumption)
- Every peice of statistic has some pecualirities associated with it. If you have one or a couple, please do not forget to mention them. So, I am looking for your sitename, your breakup of Mozilla and IE usage percentages, anything peculiar/different about your site and a little comment about the makeup of your site.
All of that being said, please do not hesitate to leave your stats if you run a blog or an International site, any information is good information! 🙂
Thank you! I will tally up the information and post the results after one week.
Internet Explorer (36.47 %)
Mozilla/Mozilla Compatible (17.28%)
Netscape (2.92%)
The other 43.33% are mainly RSS Aggregators led by Sharpreader at 3.78%. For 2004, the site has been visited a total of 359,555 times. And, it is definitely a weblog.
For my personal domain, in the month of June:
29.64% msnbot/0.11
24.46% Microsoft Internet Explorer
23.90% Netscape/Mozilla
4.07% Googlebot/2.1
2.94% Yahoo! Slurp
2.61% Openbot/3.0+
1.75% Straw/0.22.1
1.43% Opera/7.5
For my server in aggregate, which hosts 5 domains, for the month of June:
39.24% Microsoft Internet Explorer
19.27% msnbot/0.11
16.49% Netscape/Mozilla
4.11% Googlebot/2.1
3.60% Openbot/3.0+
3.53% Yahoo! Slurp
I run a Spanish blog, I hope both factors cancel out :-). Anyway, filtering robots and feed readers, this month looks like
80% Internet Explorer
13.2% Mozilla
4.3% Netscape
2.3% Opera

I just have a little personal blog site, where I sometimes have photo entries that I post to photo memes such as Photo Friday, which generates more traffic to my site than on a photo-less day.
I have a weblog where I write about news, the media, culture, technology, philosophy, blogging, and pretty much anything else that interests me. I also have a photoblog at the same domain. Here are my stats:
Browsers
• MS Internet Explorer: 34582 / 43%
• Mozilla: 30758 / 38.3%
• Unknown: 7677 / 9.5%
• Safari: 2210 / 2.7%
• Opera: 1846 / 2.2%
• Netscape: 1686 / 2.1%
• LibWWW: 526 / 0.6%
• Lynx: 404 / 0.5%
• Firebird: 270 / 0.3%
• W3C HTML Validator: 107 / 0.1%
• Others: 216 / 0.2%
The “unknown” group mostly appears to consist of RSS readers and some of the lesser known search engine spiders.
Operating Systems
• Windows: 64874 / 80.8%
• Unknown: 9773 / 12.1%
• Macintosh: 3586 / 4.4%
• Linux: 1776 / 2.2 %
• FreeBSD: 193 / 0.2 %
• Sun Solaris: 61 / 0%
• WebTV: 16 / 0%
• OS/2: 3 / 0 %
The “unknown” grouping here is the same as the one for browsers (when Awstats doesn’t recognize something, it gives you the user agent).
Oh, those were for last month BTW.
