I was looking for a nice way to show how many people are looking at my site at a given time and I found a couple of different solutions, the easiest of which was not going to work in my case (because of caching and php accelerator). So I wrote a little hack for WordPress and other php based sites (using MySql) to tell “Who is Online right now?” Download the hack instructions here.
Thanks for this – it was simple to set up and works great on my site. The SQL worked fine on modern mysql.
I would like to say that it is nice but the syntax is wrong for my version of mysql so it doesn’t work for me. Instead, I’ll attempt to give you a step by step of how to do it with webmin and post the url to it on your site here for those of us that use it. The only thing I need to know is what tables to actually create, what fields, and what data type…from there it is a snap. But for now, my weblog will have to stay plain…at least until I enable the hacks file. 😀
