Mark,
I’ve wondered the same thing about the bookmarks on my blog. Wouldn’t it be great if the plugin could could be coded to self-monitor, and keep a running tally of how many outclicks for each of the bookmark icons?
I too find the number of icons for things like this overwhelming. I’ve never used the icons on your posts, but I like the idea of being able to bookmark. I may actually add it to my site but certainly not use all the icons. Waaay too much.
My site has all those subscription icons, etc. and I even find that overwhelming. It is part of the template I am using and I just haven’t bothered to change anything about it yet.
i agree, when i see 2 dozen + icons at the bottom of a post, i just laugh. i have to mouse-over most of them just to find out what site they are even for, much less use them to bookmark a post!

CrazyEgg.com lets you see what your users are clicking on whatever page you program with them. Sure, you can only monitor one page at a time, but it may be a useful test to see if anyone is clicking on those social bookmarking links.
I would love to see a way to monitor status. That way, I can decide what Icons I want to show based on if.. “if” any are used. In the past, I know I had people use the Tecnoroti and digg icons when they came to my page.. but even though I have others available, I have no way of knowing if they are even being used, if they are unsightly to most, wasted space, or if someone ever uses them. . Personally, if I knew which were used, I would strip the rest and keep those. Just my 2 cents.
Generally speaking, I never click on icons like that. My use of del.icio.us is limited, at best, to what I bookmark in Flock (same end result, it’s just faster). As for Digg, I can see it has its use, but I don’t wish to participate because at times it feels like a contest of sorts.
An avid fan of business, education, technology and finance. My hobbies include all kinds of technology, anything that I can taste and anything that goes fast or flies in the air. I like to read business books and comics in my spare time.

Just my two pence.
This is a test
I recommend the Socializer plugin for WordPress instead of this bar thing.
(This is the page you get when you click on the “Socialize This!” Text. It gives you a bunch of different social bookmark sites to click on, to bookmark a page/post =)
