Twitter, the micro blogging service which allows you to submit messages that are 140 characters or less has become an excellent communications tool. A large number of people are using Twitter on a daily basis to keep up with the world as well as communicating with their friends and family members from almost any location. As luck would have it, a large number of WordPress faithful are also using Twitter. I have at times, indulged in a conversation or two with those who are making a name for themselves within the WordPress community. I use my Twitter account to pass on links to cool themes, news stories and plugins I come across via my FeedReader.

With that being said, I’d like to present you with at least 30 people to follow on Twitter. Each one of these people are doing something significant within the WordPress community and some of them are core developers such as Matt Mullenweg.

The names on the left are the user’s real name while the name on the right is their Twitter username which has been linked to their Twitter account page. This makes it easier for you to follow them.

Name Twitter Username

  1. Matt Mullenweg – photomatt
  2. WordPress – WordPress This is the user account tied into the WordPress.org RSS Feed
  3. Lloyd Budd – lloydbudd
  4. Donncha O Caoimh – donncha
  5. Mark Jaquith – markjaquith
  6. Lisa Sabin Wilson – LisaSabin
  7. Brian Gardner – bgardner
  8. David Peralty – davidcubed
  9. Cory Miller – corymiller303
  10. Steven Milne – wordpressguy
  11. Ozh – ozh
  12. Andrew Rickmann – arickmann
  13. Ryan McCue – rmccue
  14. Joost de Valk – jdevalk
  15. Warwick Poole – warwickp
  16. Ptah Dunbar – ptahdunbar
  17. Charles Stricklin – cstricklin
  18. Nathan Rice – nathanrice
  19. John Kolbert – johnkolbert
  20. 1catbiz – onecatbiz
  21. Hans Engel – hans_engel
  22. Leland – themelab
  23. Ronald Huereca – ronalfy
  24. Ryan – ryanhellyer
  25. Ian Stewart – iandstewart
  26. BuddyPress – buddypressdev
  27. Mark Ghosh – laughinglizard
  28. Jeff Chandler – jeffr0
  29. Andy Peatling – apeatling
  30. Andy Skelton – skeltoac
  31. Michael Castilla – wpcandy

Some of these folks are theme developers, some of them are plugin developers, others have great WordPress communities that they manage through their blog. Some even do WordPress related podcasts. If you use Twitter, now would be the time to highlight your user account in the comments so we can follow you!

  1. Douglas Karr says:

Thanks, this is great. WordPress really does have a great community, although I have noticed there is the ‘inner circle’.

  2. Leland says:

Very nice list, thanks for sharing.

  3. wayne sutton says:

Great list, I’m always looking for more people to connect with especially in the wordpress family. I spent most of my day today working on a wordpress theme.

I’m @waynesutton on twitter and I love wordpress.

    Thanks

  4. Lekhni says:

Thanks, this is good advice. I am on twitter as lekhni and am always looking for interesting people to follow.

  5. Jake says:

    Nice list. I’m at twitter.com/jkohlman

  6. Jake says:

Oh and I’d add noted plugin guru Alex King to the list, twitter.com/alexkingorg

  7. Jason says:

Twitter is something of an anomaly to me. I really don’t see the purpose behind it when so many of us have been using other technologies like IRC for 15+ years. Twitter, in my opinion, is nothing more than a partial extension of technologies we already have.

That said, for anyone that’s really interested in keeping on top of the seemingly constant changes within the Twitter and social media sector, you might consider following Corvida at SheGeeks.net.

  8. thecancerus says:

i already follow some of them.. via links they have on their blog 😀

    my twitter is @thecancerus

  9. Jacob Santos says:

Hmm, I wish ryan boren was up there. My only problem is that Ms. Mayo twitters too much and it blocks out the other people.

That and I really couldn’t care less about twitter. I’m on it once every week, two weeks? Some people might say something interesting, but I doubt it.

  10. wembley says:

thanks for the list; you may consider updating http://twitterpacks.pbwiki.com/ twitter packs wiki, which lists twitter users by themes (not wordpress themes :), well… different categories; see fo yourself; rgds, @wembley

  11. David says:

I wondered why I had a bunch of new followers… I thought I was being Twitter spammed. 🙂 Thanks.

  12. Brent Ozar says:

You should clean up that list to only include people who are, like, you know, actually Twittering. I clicked on Andy Skelton out of curiosity, and he’s had a grand total of 11 tweets in the year 2008. Come on, help us help you….

  13. Ian Stewart says:

Thanks for the mention, Jeff. And new people to follow! Excellent work

  14. Thank you for sharing Jeff. I’m new to the WordPress community, but this is exactly what I’ve been looking for. My Twitter username is “thaya” if anybody would like to follow some of my plugin development work and WordPress hacks.

  15. Claudia J. says:

I’d add http://twitter.com/teli to your list. She’s the one who writes the optiniche blog and she’s my go to girl for all things WordPress.

  16. Oops… I meant “madeinthayaland”. I lose track of everything these days!

  17. Hans Engel says:

    Hey Jeff,
Thanks for mentioning my Twitter account in this post! I was wondering where all the followers were coming from 🙂

  18. @Claudia J.
I have also followed teli. Thank you for the referral.

I have a small question, which somebody might be able to answer. Can I attach my rss-feed to Twitter, so it is published there? If so, how?

  32. Doug Stewart says:

I’m on there as well as zamoose.

  33. David says:

The answer, Manuel, is yes. Check out Twitterfeed.com to tie your RSS feed to your Twitter account. Great list, I think I am following some already. You can find my tweets on DC, politics, PR and general life events at http://www.twitter.com/almacy.

  34. Dustin says:

    Great list! Here’s mine: http://twitter.com/tyr

  36. Pinoy Teens says:

    I’m on twitter, @drumgit.

  39. Nice list jeff, but seems some good ones (lorelle) don’t twit.
Anyways, mine is up at http://twitter.com/shantanugoel if someone wants to know.

  40. Michael says:

I’m kind of lukewarm on the whole twitter thing too but nonetheless I’m on there: http://twitter.com/blogexperiment

  41. David Airey says:

Nice. Found a few people I know (but didn’t know they were on Twitter). Have a great weekend, Jeff.

  42. Mmmmm….there isn’t Scoble..why? 🙂 😛

  43. Thanks for putting this list together – it’s a useful resource.

    kwbridge on twitter

  44. Top Rated says:

Nice trustworthy list. Although, having 31 people twittering in my ear, is bound to drive my incredibly low productivity to even lower levels. How do tweeters manage to get any work done? I must just be a lousy multi tasker.

  45. wembley says:

    @toprated,
twitter is down sometimes, which helps a lot. 😉

  46. marco says:

    thanks for doing this!

    http://www.twittering.org

    atizine at twitter. 🙂

  47. I’m a big fan of WordPress and maintain a number of WP sites for myself and others. I also administer WP MU for Physicians for Human Rights. I’m on twitter at http://twitter.com/minorjive.

  48. Noel Jackson says:

Wow, a really great list of people to follow.

I’ve worked on quite a few wordpress themes, including the new .com monotone photoblogging theme. I’m @noel over on twitter.

Aside: I’m slightly disappointed with the community building aspect of Twitter. I think Plurk might be headed in a nice direction. I’m noel over there too.

  49. Jenny H says:

awesome! love wordpress and twitter. Definitely going on my follow list. here are my twitter accounts: http://www.twitter.com/hey1tsjenny & http://www.twitter.com/misschicgeek

WordPress totally helped me setup my sites in no time. In case you’re curious:
    http://www.misschicgeek.com
    http://www.jenny-huang.com

Both sites are definitely still work-in-progress

  50. Raul says:

My blog is pretty personal (and somewhat Vancouver-centric), but I do have a couple of friends who are WP developers (and they are included in this list of yours) whom I follow, so you might see a couple of familiar faces on the list of people whom I follow.

I also find it somewhat self-absorbed to self-promote, but here is my Twitter in case anyone wants to follow me Raul – apparently I am the top Twitterer in Vancouver, Canada (or so says TwitterLocal.net).

My blog “Random Thoughts of a Student of the Environment” started as a Blogger blog and now is fully WordPress. So, as I told Lloyd Budd one day, “I am a WordPress boy all the way”. On my blog you can find a couple of WordPress-related links, including a live-blog of WordCamp 2008.

  51. I’m on twitter: http://twitter.com/miriamschwab. I tweet about all sorts of stuff, including our favorite blogging platform: WordPress.

  52. Viper007Bond, the creator of the Viper quicktags WordPress plugin has hopped aboard the twitter train. Please follow @Viper007Bond

  53. Dan says:

Following Jason Walz on twitter. http://twitter.com/jasonwalz. He has great tweets related to design/web-design, software and other technology related posts.

  54. This may be elementary but I’m a newbie: I have a website built on a WordPress platform with a WordPress them I love. However, the home page disappeared on me and I cannot find it for the life of me to add new content. In essence, I don’t have a landing page. Disaster. Help! Please!

  55. Chris says:

Nice list! Follow me: chrischerrett (twitter.com/chrischerrett)

  56. Using WordPress template for my website that has some funkiness and I cannot figure out how to fix it. Problems like “posted by ” and my name at the top of each page on static website, extra little German thingies at the bottom. You can tell I’m not a techie. Twitter: @kathleensbarnes

  57. Great list, glad to know the names of WP people on Twitter. My Twitter: Travis_Lindsay

  58. Hey great post! You can follow me on Twitter @ http://twitter.com/ColinScatt and you can follow my blog on twitter @ http://twitter.com/OnTheCrease and thanks again!

Another great wordpress associated twitter to follow is called Blurbia! They’re just getting started but they have a lot of sharp looking, easy interface layouts for wordpress.

  63. Amy Kalisher says:

I’m a designer just two days in to learning the WordPress widgetalia, trying to customize links. Wish I had a personal WP guru! This list just might help, thanks! I’m on Twitter @amykstudio

  64. Hey thanks for this list. That is neat. I followed WordPress. I know you said most are developers and such, I am not familiar with them. Twitter is the way to go. (friendlyknoxguy on Twitter). My blog entries are tweeted to my Twitter.
