Kaspars from Konstruktors has released a WordPress 2.5 plugin called Baltic Amber Themes that allows you to change your default colour schemeadmin theme.

Update: This plugin does modify your admin layout as well as your color schemes, so please keep this in mind if trying the plugin out. Kaspars has mentioned that there is now an option to disable the layout changes.

What’s even cooler about this plugin is that the plugin provides a nice refresh to the Write Panel and several areas of the overall administration panel.

After activating the plugin, you can change the default colour schemetheme by viewing your profile options. From there, you have an option of 8 colour schemes, or an option for a custom or random colour.

This is a rather welcome addition to the WordPress 2.5 admin area.

This is awesome, this is exactly what I expected to see from many others once this type of functionality was added to WordPress 2.5. Kudos to Kaspars for releasing this.

  2. Kaspars says:

Everybody, please note that these are actually admin themes and not just color schemes, as the plugin also changes the alignment of several interface elements in your Admin panel.

Please, see the screenshots before trying it out.

  3. @Kaspars,
I made some small changes in the post to make this a bit clearer, although I did mention about some of the layout changes.

YES! It’s finally been officially released! 🙂 I love the Spring colours myself, and am so glad that Kaspars has rearranged the write panel. Thanks, Ronald and Kaspars! 😀

  5. Len says:

Glad to see you took Ron’s advice in the chatroom the other day and released the package. 😉

  6. @Len,
Yes, I think everybody in there loved it.

  7. Thanks for posting. I really don’t like 2.5’s admin interface, maybe this will make it more palatable for me.

  8. I think this is a cool idea, however I am not quite ready to use this plugin yet…I think i am pretty satisfied with the existing admin theme for now :).
I wouldn’t say that I like the new admin interface, but I don’t think it’s that bad at all…it did take me some getting used to it, now that I am used to it I think it’s fine.
Again, the plugin you mentioned is very nice, it shows the various things that can be achieved even for admins :).

    Finally something to smile about.
Scrolling down a mile just to add a category is very annoying!
    Thanks!

  11. TheTick says:

I like! I’m not in to the colorful themes, but the asphalt one suits me. The categories being so low only bothered me a little, but this is definitely an improvement.

  12. Kaspars says:

Just wanted to inform everybody that the plugin has been updated to include the ability to change only the colors of the administration screen, leaving the layout exactly like it is in WordPress 2.5 by default.

  13. Kaspars says:

Final update: now the Admin Themes work perfectly in all the major browsers — Firefox 1.5 (and above), IE 6, IE 7, Opera 9 and also Safari.

  14. Chetan says:

Does anyone know of a wordpress admin panel theme that is optimized well to be used in mobile phones? One was there for iphone but i need it for Nokia N70 phone.
