The definitive WordPress Plugin List 8comments

Author: Mark Ghosh Category: General

Thanks for visiting! We would like to serve you better. Please subscribe to our RSS feed for daily updates. This blog posts regular Wordpress news, updates of themes, plugins, ideas, hacks, quick fixes and everything about blogging, especially about Wordpress. You can also receive updates from this blog via email if you want that method of notification.

I say Plugins very loosely and I mean plugin, hack, mod list. So what do you think are THE definitive plugins for WordPress? Which are the plugins that you simply could not do without? Are there any that are hidden gems that I have not noticed? Please limit your suggestions and links to WordPress version 1.2 and above only.

What new plugin, when and if developed, would become the definitive plugin for WordPress (spam panacea notwithstanding)?

WP: Archive by Date 2comments

Mark produced Sortable Nicer Archives for WordPress but sometimes people don’t want the sortable part - a list will do. So due to a request in the WP forums, I’ve taken out the code that gets in the way for that, and made it just list by date.

Can be seen working here in the latest WP build:

Dynamic list of Spam Words and CSPAM Announcement 7comments

Author: Mark Ghosh Category: General

If you use any type of blacklisting for comments in your blog, you need a list of words/phrases/ip addresses that are fresh and prolific in spam. Here is a list of 2000 spammer IPs and commonly used words and phrases out of CSPAM. These are the most prolific spammers’ IPs and the most used spam words.

In order to add this to your Spamwords list in WordPress, simply open the URL, view source, select all, copy and paste into the spam words form in WordPress. This list can be used with ANY blogging tool that has blacklisting capabilities.

Dynamic Comment Spam Blacklist

I would also like to make some announcements about the CSPAM project. It will be released under the auspices of GPL. I envision CSPAM to work with all blogging tools that support xmlrpc (and a few people already share my vision of CSPAM). An SVN has been setup and the code has been uploaded. There has been a fair amount of interest in the project and I appreciate the encouragement and the flood of ideas that I have received. I am still looking for a couple of developers to work on the CSPAM project with me.

However, before it is released to the public, it needs a couple of fixes (and changes to the code) which I would really like to get cranked out. I would also like to get a couple of people on board that are familiar with MT and TextPattern (among other blogging tools). So if you are interested in Centralized Spam Protection, have ideas and concerns you would like to share, would like to take a gander at the SVN code, or are simply interested in being a beta tester, please email me for further information.

  • FeedSpeaker Blog

FeedSpeaker Blog FeedSpeaker translates text RSS Feeds into badly spoken MP3 files. Mike is actively seeking feedback from users. At least he is honest about the clarity and enunciation of the spoken text. Could this be a psuedo podcast tool for non podcasters? (1)
  • WP Detective Plugin

WP Detective Plugin: A translated link to a WordPress plugin that allows you to track a user as they traverse through your blog. This could be interesting if the data does not grow too quickly. (1)

  • FlickIt

FlickIt: More Flickr blogging goodness. Flickit is a plugin for WordPress and other CMSs (planned for the future) that costs $5 and allows you to add pictures to your blog, mostly aimed at Flickr. Try it out at the demo with username and password: flickit I would like to know how the “for pay” plugin works out for Colin. I am sure this will set some kind of a trend though I am not sure what the lisence implications are. (1)
