New plugins Genesis Simple Headers lets you use the WordPress Appearance -> Header functionality to upload a custom logo or header for your site using the Genesis Theme Framework. jQuery Slick Menu Widget creates sticky, sliding menu widgets from any standard WordPress custom menu using jQuery. User Spam Remover automatically removes spam user registrations and other old, never-used user accounts. It also blocks the notification e-mail that WordPress normally sends to the administrator whenever a new user registers and logs it instead. Updated plugins AVH Extended Categories Widgets gives you multiple widgets for displaying categories. One is a replacement of the default category widget to allow for greater customization. The plans have been laid for WordPress 3.2. In summary, this is going to be a much faster and lighter release with support dropped for long-outdated technologies. Here are the details: Faster Release Cycle – It’ll be here before you know it, or at least sooner than other releases have been. Faster and Lighter – With support for long-outdated technologies being dropped, this will be the fastest and lightest WordPress in quite some time. PHP 5.2.4 Required – The team will simply be dropping support for PHP 4, there won’t be very many new PHP 5 features added. MySQL 5 Required – Like above, the team will simply be dropping support for MySQL 4. IE6 EOL – No more fancy IE6-only hacks. Big Changes for Blogger in 2011

Blogger, Google’s 11-year-old blogging platform, will be kicking it into high gear in 2011 with a few improvements. Premiered this year at SXSW, Blogger will be launching a completely overhauled user interface, putting to rest an interface that has begun to show its age. Following on its heels will be new mobile themes, and a new content discovery engine, “that lets you uncover interesting and related content based on the topics of the blog you’re currently reading.” Google promises that there will be more to come, but they are not ready to reveal anything else at this time. 2011 is starting to sound like a big year for the blogging giant, and it will certainly be interesting to see what comes of it.
