Hi everyone,
I just finished up version 1.0 of my first competition submission, WP Comment Remix. You can get the full details and download link here: WP Comment Remix
Before now, if you had a popular blog (or even a not-so-popular blog), it was a pain in the butt to go through and reply to comments, and you never had a quick way to see which comments you hadn’t replied to. WP Comment Remix fixes all that.
Features your readers can see
With the addition of both public-facing features like Reply and Quote links on comments, this plugin makes it easier for your readers, and you, to coherently reply to comments.
And WPCR also adds a whole new functionality to comments, Comment Tags. Comment tags are a great way to allow your readers to classify their comments, so everyone can find specific tags quickly and easily.
If, for instance, your post is about fruit, and you want to see all of the posts about Bananas, you simply click the “Banana” tag and it filters to all of the comments about bananas.
Or, for a more real-world example, if you are reading a post about a plugin, and want to see all the bugs that have been reported (so you don’t report the same one) then you could simply click on the “bug” tag.
Features just for you
Then there’s the additions to the admin area itself. WPCR addresses many of the comment management needs that bloggers see every day.
First, WPCR adds a new comment notice above the “Comments” menu link that tells you how many comments you have that haven’t been replied to. Clicking on that link takes you to the comment management area with only those comments displayed.
On the comment management pages, WPCR adds new links, like Reply, Quote, Edit, and Ignore. The Reply and Quote links pop up an AJAX reply box, where you can reply to the comment without leaving the page. The Edit link takes you to the edit comment screen (where you can also edit the comment tags), and the Ignore link lets you tell WPCR that you don’t want to reply to that comment, and not to list it with the other comments that are in need of a reply.
On the Manage Posts page, clicking the comment # now uses AJAX to drop down the comments for that post. You can manage the comments here just as easily as on the comment management page.
Widgets
WP Comment Remix also adds 4 new, powerful widgets for you to use:
Recent Comments Remix, Recent Trackbacks Remix, Most Active Discussions, and Most Active Commenters
Each widgets’ display can be controlled easily through the Widget controls
Admin Settings
All of the features in WP Comment Remix allow you to turn them on and off by changing the plugin settings, available under Settings > Comment Remix. So, if you don’t want to use comment tags? You can turn it off. Only want the Reply link, and not the Quote link? Turn the quote link off.
I like plugins easy that way
Future
I’m posting here now to get your feedback, ideas for new features, bug reports, etc. All of the features I had in mind are present in the plugin, but I’m always up for ideas that will make this a better plugin!
- Video - I’m currently working on a video that will both showcase the features of WP Comment Remix, as well as serve as a help file to walk users through everything.
- Localization - This is the first plugin I’ve used the localization features on, so I’m still getting it all ready. Feel free to start translating it, though, this will be ready soon!
Download
I’m still waiting on approval for the Plugin Directory, so for now I’m hosting the download on my blog: http://pressography.com/plugins/wp-comment-remix/

Update: We’re now on version 1.1, and one big bug and a few small bugs have been squashed.
Still waiting on directory approval, so the download remains on my site, listed above

This plugin could be complete if you could add the functionality of rating the comments, as in, giving the comments a thumbs up or a down rating, something on the lines of digg.

One thing I would like to see - the option to reply to the commenter via email simultaneously as posting as with the plugin Comment Email Responder. I really like to email my commenters and that is the only thing holding me back from adding this plugin to my installation.

A wonderful plugin. This provides great service to readers wanting to comment without knowing the html behind getting what is a click here.
On the admin side, this plugin neatly organizes your comments and makes it simple to respond to them right from the panel.
I agree that the one great improvement would be an “ignore all” of the currently non-replied to comments. Think of a mature blog implementing this and seeing 1,000 comments not replied to as the startup and having to go through and ignore them one by one.
However, this is version 1.2. 1.1 is a hands-down improvement on comments for both the user and the administrator. It’s one that I don’t think blogs should be without. Yeah, it’s that good.

This is a much needed plug-in, in my opinion. I have needed such an option for a long time. My only thought for a change, is a way to zero out my unreplied comment number.
I have just installed the plug-in and now I have over 5,000 comments I have not replied to. I am not going to go reply or ignore these 5000 comments now. I would like to start tracking replied to comments from when I installed it, or when I click some sort of reset button.

@Scot & @Anthony - Done. We’re up to version 1.3 now and it has both an ignore button in the comments area to ignore multiple comments, as well as an “Ignore All” button on the plugin settings page to ignore of the all comments

Its been my favourite plugin till yesterday when i upgraded to Wordpress 2.5.1 and what i noticed is my image uploader is not working. I deactivated all plugins and found out that it has started working. And to dissect more by activating plugins one by one i realized that it is WP Comment Remix which was causing problem and had to deactivate it.
Hopefully you will have some fix for that so that i can use it again.

Thanks for making such a cool pugin =)

Any chance that this plugin would be able to email the reply if I so choose? That would make it perfect.

WPCR 1.4 is out now, and it fixes the image uploader problem, as well as a few other small bugs.
@Chris - I’m looking into that functionality, but it won’t be ready before the competition is over.

That’s fine with me, just as long as it happens eventually.

another vote for thumbs up/down for comments, so that idiotic comments are pushed down the line, a must for political blogs (many angry people posting ridiculous things)
July 7th, 2008 at 11:36 am
A more useful feature than just “thumbs up/down” is to have low rating comments not to be displayed by default, kind of like Slashdot’s D2 commenting system.

This plug in has helped me get a handle on comments. It’s great!

Comment Remix really helps with social marketing. I love that it alerts me to what comments are in need of responses, so that actual conversation can take place on your blog.
Great job!

This plugin ROCKS! Next feature should have stuff to do with email. If someone responds to your comment, email you. That would be amazing.
Can’t wait to see what else this plugin will hold. WP Comment Remix FTW!
