Dear Len,
My self is a WordPress theme and plugin developer, most of them I give for free (like this plugin or this theme). I have a lot of affiliates also. So why do I do this and what’s in it for you? Am I spamming?
Well, having some knowledge I like to check technical issues like cross browser compatibility and lots of other stuff, other than aesthetic like a regular theme buyer. Yes, I want to make a buck, but why should YOU buy trough me and not directly from the authors?
1. From a high ranking web site like mine I don’t affiliate to any low quality designers, I really don’t give free links. Finding lots of affiliates like me should give to regular buyer some insurance about the quality of the product.
2. The buyer gets the same price like on the author’s site, so why not buy trough an affiliate?
3. Selling hundreds of products trough me, as an affiliate, give me the chance to negotiate with the author and ask for discount codes to buyers from my site. See Amazon, is exactly the same thing. Amazon is just an affiliate selling other products, but because of the sales volume, YOU, as buyer get better price on the affiliate website as from the original author’s site. Amazon release announcements on niche websites is SPAMMING in your book also?
4. Having a site from where customers can check all the best products from different authors will give them a better overview and will push authors to compete against them in better quality and lower prices.
Is this really bad?
Now YOU can go directly to author’s site to buy whatever product. If they don’t have enough affiliates, meaning sales, you might get lucky and get a discount also, but let others think for their self.
Affiliate systems work FOR the customers and not against them. Your problem is that someone else earns some money? My site rank 5 in Google, if you look for allure theme studiopress in Google my site is in front of the author’s site, you think this can be achieved without work with so called spamming?
I see it as a win-win-win situation (customer-author-affiliate). I see this post as a new theme release in the Premium Theme section of this site, if this site owner thinks other, I will delete this post.
