  1. Spettro is the latest theme from SlackrThemes. It is a minimal and brightly-colored theme, very minimal, and has a creative look to it. The whole site is aligned to the left with a bit logo at the top and a widgetized sidebar (login form hard-coded into sidebar.php). Also a recent thing that I am including with all of the themes now is a canonical links for comments hack which will reduce the risk of duplicate content, which is one of the major problems with websites and SEO.

    Features:
    -It’s aligned to the left!
    -Thumbnail-enabled (added in WP 2.9)
    -SEO optimized
-Very minimal, easy to change logo/background
    -Fixed width
    -Gravatars in comments
    -Threaded comments
    -Widgetized sidebar
    -Canonical comments

  2. Guess it must be time for me to either retire or get glasses. I looked at the demo page and couldn't read one word of the text. :-(

  3. I'll try to change things up a little bit and see what I can do

  4. One possibility might be to make the posts' content area semi transparent -- maybe 80%. Totally up to you, of course. :-)

Background floats right, but content floats left...so on a larger monitor/resolution the site looks broken. In your stylesheet, #centerDiv is called 'center', but contains float:left. By removing or setting to float:none, the content aligns center and looks much better. As well, since the background is floating right and isn't filling the entire screen (I'm on a 24", 1920x1200), maybe center it as well and set it to repeat-x? These two things would greatly improve the template for display on larger monitors...which are only becoming more and more common every day.

Also, I agree with gestroud...the background is spiffy, but it's so bright and varied in color that it renders any text content almost useless.

  6. Okay so I changed the background image and typography colors completely. I have changed the alignment of the image and made it repeat on the x-axis. I kept the site aligned left and I guess with the naming of #centerDiv, I was thinking that it was the main column..making it automatically in the center? Sorry, my thought processes work like that sometimes.

I've updated the demo and the download so does it look better you guys? Thanks a TON for all of the feedback. It really helps out!

Nice work on the changes, definitely helped with readability and overall 'visual credibility'. As for the content floating left, it's still a bit strange because it fills up just over 1/3 of my screen, so here I am looking left instead of in front of me. Though it's just an opinion based on my personal setup, attaching content to the left screen edge should only be used when the overall layout is fluid...resulting in content filling the entire width of the screen. Your call completely though...

As I said, readability has definitely been improved, but at times I still find that my brain is trying to discern text from background content. That kind of sounds weird, but it's just to say that if I'm distracted by the background while trying to read naturally, I have to refocus on the text and consciously ignore the graphic...vs. just reading the text. Maybe a light transparent .png on your .entry? I don't know if that would work though, because there are some interesting alignments in place...the text seems ruled by #NewsComments at 310px wide, the #contentArea is 560px wide, but isn't used to constrain post-header images, which are 630px wide. Seems that you have an artistic element in play here and I'm trying to be too logical. :-)

  8. Nice work on this one, though I kind of liked the other background. It was a bit move festive and eye catching.

The content area might be better if it were centered on the page. It just seems that there's a bit too much real estate on the right. Just my opinion, though.

  9. Eeek yeah, my CSS "artistic element" seems to have caused a pain in the butt. >.< damn my common sense...

I have gotten rid of some divs that did nothing at all, and I've centered the the content and widened it just a little bit. Bumped header size up 2px's, and that's about it.

I want to do the transparent png the posts area but it's combined with the sidebar and I would want it if anything to have rounded corners. you guys have any suggestions on colors that could be used to make the the text not blend in so much with the background?

I've updated the demo and the download, thanks again so, so much you guys with all of this. You're really helping me out with this one and I've learned a lot of lessons about what NOT to do with CSS

  10. I tried to download this theme so that I could test it but when I click the link you provided I get a message that says "Download does not exist!"

Edit: Located a download link on your site. I installed this theme on a test server but it looks like nothing like your demo. Am I missing something?

You're gonna hate me...now it looks great centered, but you're using a forced padding-left to do it, rather than letting it auto-center based on screen resolution. If I reduce my browser size, everything hangs right now instead of keeping center. I would recommend having a container div for all the primary content so that you can use auto margins and it'll center itself accordingly. Thanks for your graciousness regarding taking advice, but I think I'll leave you be! :-)

  13. @Len - I don't know what the problem is, but I'll make sure that the download is the same as the one on the demo server. Thanks for the heads up.

@touchnova - dude no way, don't sweat it. You're really helping me out a lot on this and you're only making me learn from (a lot) of mistakes that I made with this theme :) I've centered it with just auto-center based on screen resolution, and thank you very much for all of the help!

@linghtkun - yeah, I based it off of you're death note theme (which I think was based off of kubrick). I really liked the look though. :)

supermario you are free to do anything what you like as much as you add some kind of value to the original theme and offer it to public.. if you give it for free then thumbs up and if you can sell it to somebody then two thumbs up! again, good one. keep it up!

  15. @Lightkun - thanks a lot man, and thanks for making a theme to base it off of! (actually a pretty big fan of death note) so thumbs up! :)
