New Suggested Topic: WP Support Forums

The wordpress.org/support/ forums. What's there, how to get the best out of it, bbPress that they use, who are the mods, what are the short-comings, what is the future outlook for it?

What about 3rd party, off-site, alternative forums to get WP support / ask questions / post tips? Like WP Forums? Which ones are worth checking out, how big are they, what features are needed to make it successful? Could an alternative discussion board become as widely known as the WP.org forum?

When you talk about Security, could you talk about the hidden code in WP that puts "Generated By WordPress Version ##" in your header, even if it's not in your header.php file? Some consider it a feature, others consider it a security risk or privacy concern that WP should not put in. Discussion of this: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/164884?replies=16

Yeah gestroud, January 2nd will be your lucky day because that show is entirely dedicated to WordPress security and Mark E. will be on the show to talk about his in-depth WordPress security plugin.

I only started listening recently, so I'm wondering if you've done any shows on WordPress security, security plugins, setting up secure sites, etc., or had any of the developers who design those plugins on?

I'm thinking of compiling a best of, it's just whether or not I'll have time to do it. Also thinking about publishing a special episode simply thanking everyone and talking about why I do the show, and what I want it to turn into in the future. Not sure on either idea just yet.

Yes Conorp. In fact, I have a show planned where both Jason Schuller and Brian Gardner will be on the air together and that is one of the topics we'll be discussing. Look for that in 2009 and thanks for the suggestion.

Also, is it possible to have a Wordpress skin designer come on the show. He/She could talk about techniques they use to create the skins and where they get their inspiration.

Short answer: I'm not yet using Pods

Longer story: I'm only in the early research and question phase of life with WordPress. We have a very tired, old table-based-design-HTML website for our small, family/farm business. I'm hoping to set up a website, powered by WP, that will showcase our various products, and especially be simple enough to update that my non-tech wife will feel comfortable uploading content. She's been VERY frustrated over the years by always having to wait for me to change the site.

I've been tearing apart WP themes, figuring out how to integrate normal website elements with the WP blog engine. It seems to me that Pods may go a really long way toward providing convenient behind the scenes linkages, enabling content classification, etc.

Awesome find Jim. The show is currently booked for the rest of the year and two shows into next year however, I am going to try and get him on the air for an interview similar to the way I interviewed Brian Gardner during the week.

It looks like Pods works very similar to the way in which you can define content types in Drupal which many CMS using people enjoy.

How are you using this plugin?

Hey Jeff & Co!

I think you should try to grab a hold of Matt Gibbs for an interview re his new WP plugin "Pods" -- http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/pods/

I'm only barely starting to get my head wrapped around everything that SEEMS possible via incorporating Pods into a CMS-aimed WP-powered website. I'm hoping that all you experts will ask all the right questions and make everything more clear.
