Tumblelog Reloaded

Tumblelog Reloaded is the 4th theme from UK-based Polaraul Themes that we’ve featured here at WLTC. This theme is a rework of the Tumblelog theme by Safirul Alredha. Some of its features include:

• custom page to post photo, quote, link, chat and video
• automatically format each post based on post type
• automatically resize large images/photos
• microformats hAtom and xFolk friendly

It also comes with a theme uninstaller.

The Daily Edition

The Daily Edition from Theme Sheep is a magazine-style theme that comes shipped with a whopping 7 different colour schemes to choose from. It has built-in pagination and breadcrumb navigation as well as “related posts” and features some cool animated social bookmarking icons. From the theme’s options page you can do all sorts of things such as:

• Include links to your RSS feed, Feedburner feed, Facebook page and Twitter page
• Include some custom CSS
• Include some custom footer content
• Select your colour scheme
• Select how many large posts to display on your front page. You can also decide how to display those posts – either full content or excerpts. If you choose excerpts you can even decide what length of excerpt you want.
• Select how many small posts to display on your front page. As is the case with the large posts, you can decide if you want to show full content or excerpts including the desired length of excerpts.

These are just a few features. There are many more.

Intention

Intention is a sharp-looking 2 column theme with a widgetized right sidebar and sports a horizontal navigation drop down menu for displaying pages.

Minimal Xpert

Don’t let the name or appearance of this theme fool you. It may have a minimalistic look but contains oodles of goodies under the hood. From the theme’s slick options page, some of the things you can do are:

• Include a custom favicon
• Enable/disable thumbnails on both the home page and individual post pages
• Enable/disable the home page slider
• Exclude pages/categories from the horizontal nav menus
• Enable/disable the “related posts” feature
• Activate/deactivate the sidebar advertisement block

You can even elect to activate/deactivate the “extended footer” feature. When activated, your site will display a 4 column footer containing an “about me” section, a list of recent posts, a blogroll and your Twitter stream.

Folio

Folio is a dark theme aimed at those wanting to create a showcase-type of site such as one that features wallpapers, backgrounds etc. It automatically creates custom fields for preview, image, download and more information links. Supports the WP-PostRatings plugin. This is a child theme of Aurelia which of course means Aurelia must be present in your theme folder for Folio to work. Aurelia can be found in the WordPress Theme Repository.

Diabolique Spring

Diabolique Spring is the second theme of Diabolique Design we have featured. This is a sharp-looking dark theme which comes packed with 4 different background images as well as 3 types of backgrounds for your headlines. Some of this theme’s features include a large footer, cool looking social bookmarking icons and drop-shadow effect for both the sidebar and post area boxes.

Vibefolio teaser

Vibefolio teaser is a clean-looking theme which sports a horizontal navigation menu for pages, a widgetized right sidebar and a widgetized 5-column footer. From the theme’s option page you can do all sorts of things such as upload a custom logo and favicon, include links to Feedburner, Flickr, Twitter and Facebook, insert your Google Analytics code and even disable excerpts. Comes with the TimThumb script.

Political Campaign WordPress Theme

This is a crisp and clean-looking theme perfect for, you guessed it, sites dedicated to political campaigning. For that matter it can be used on any type of political site. It sports a horizontal navigation menu for displaying pages and a widgetized 2 column footer.

FunDay

DynamicWP has been on a tear releasing new themes regularly since arriving on the scene. Their latest release FunDay is a bit of a departure from their previous work as it has a lighthearted feel to it. It has 2 horizontal navigation menus, one for displaying pages and the other for categories, a widgetized right sidebar and built-in Flickr and Twitter streams. From the theme’s options page you can upload a new logo and Gravatar, exclude pages and categories from the nav menus and include links to Twitter, your RSS feed and RSS email among other things.

Wedding Bells

Wedding Bells is a crisp, clean and neat looking theme released by Finnish designer Lauri Liimatta. It sports a horizontal navigation menu for pages and a widgetized right sidebar as well as a large header image which can be changed from the backend.

Clean Green

The folks at DynamicWP have been turning out some fantastic themes as of late and their latest offering Clean Green is no different. As the name implies, green is the dominant colour of this theme. The various shades of green used in this theme go well together. Clean Green comes with a widgetized right sidebar and a widgetized 3 column footer. Flickr and Twitter streams are built-in and appear as widgets on the widget screen. From the theme’s options page you can use a custom logo, a custom Gravatar and exclude both pages and categories from the horizontal navigation menu. From there you can also insert your Twitter, RSS and E-mail feed link among other things.

Cumulus

Empire Themes (formerly known as refueled) has cranked up their theme design a notch or two and have been busy turning out some excellent themes. One of the first themes I ever used years ago was a design called Ad Clerum by refueled so I am very familiar with their work.

Cumulus is their latest release and is perfect for use as a portfolio theme. Setting up the theme is quite easy. Simply create a new Page called “Portfolio” and use the accompanying Portfolio Page Template. Then create a new category also called “Portfolio”. Now, when adding a new post you will see a new form field under the write post box called Portfolio Post: Image Location where you add the URL of the image you want to include. It also comes with its own options page. Coming soon is a matching bbPress theme.

Fantastic Dream

Fantastic Dream is a light coloured theme with a widgetized right sidebar and built-in tabber powered by jQuery. From the theme’s options page you can easily change the header image.

Simplicity Reloaded

Simplicity Reloaded is a simple yet elegant looking theme. It features built-in breadcrumb navigation and social bookmarking functions.

Voidy

Voidy comes to us from Niyaz of Diovo.com and sports a crisp and clean minimalistic design. That combined with the large typeface makes it easy to concentrate on the content. From the theme’s options page you can set a custom logo, include a Twitter link and offer an email subscription via Feedburner. You can also select some custom text to display in the sidebar.

Paino

Polaraul.com brings us Paino, a simple and generic theme featuring a widgetized left sidebar and dressed in an easy-on-the-eyes pastel colour palette. It has breadcrumb navigation built-in.

Clean Simple White

Another simple and clean-looking design. The use of blue for hyperlinks fits in nicely with the general appearance of this theme. It features a widgetized right sidebar as well as a widgetized 3 column footer. From the options page you can set a custom favicon as well as set up the latest Tweet widget.

Photo Theme

Photo Theme is the newest release from Blogging Inside and much like their other themes features a soothing colour palette. This theme comes with a 300px wide sidebar (perfect for your ads) and a whopping seven widgetized areas. It is also localized and comes with the language files for English, German, French, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

Magnitade

Magnitade comes to us from Jing Xuan and sports a crisp and clean look. Although it is meant to be used as a gallery theme it can easily be adapted for other purposes. It requires the WP-PostViews and WordPress Related Posts plugins to function, both of which are included in the ZIP package.

Diabolique Fountain

Diabolique Fountain, from Diabloique Design, is a nice looking dark theme which sports a horizontal navigation menu for displaying pages including a drop down menu for child pages, a left widgetized sidebar and a large footer area.

Dark Horizon

If you are unfamiliar with Milo’s work you are in for a treat as she turns out some of the most artistic and beautiful themes I’ve come across. Dark Horizon is no different. As the name implies, Dark Horizon is a dark portfolio theme with blue tints. It features a drop down menu for both pages and categories, a jQuery powered front page slider and built-in support for pagenavi and related posts. It is also cufon custom font enabled and comes with an options page. The only drawback is the theme is not hosted on her site. If you want to download it you will have to visit 4shared.com.

300

300 is another visually stunning theme from Milo of 3oneseven. Like Dark Horizon, it is a dark theme with red highlights. It is cufon custom font enabled, contains Flickr support and has an options panel for full control over the front page. The footer holds links, complete with custom icons, to some of your favourite social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook and the front page sports a jQuery slider. As is the case with Dark Horizon, if you want to download 300 you’ll be directed to 4shared.com.

Ocean Blue

Ocean Blue is the third theme from Milo we are featuring. Unlike the previous two themes, this one is brighter with its main colours being blue and white. While it is aimed at the real estate niche, with a bit of work it can be used with a regular blog. Some of the features include a jQuery powered front page slider, built-in twitter status updates, a large footer area, drop down menu for pages and categories and built-in related posts. Included is a print style sheet. Again, if you want to download this theme you’ll need to do it from 4shared.com.

Blitzy

If you’re looking for a less cluttered look, the single column Blitzy theme from Mainolo is worth taking a look at. Some believe that not having a sidebar will allow your visitors to concentrate on the content as there are no distractions. If you still want to include such things as links etc fear not for Blitzy comes with a fully widgetized footer. This is a clean and crisp looking theme that comes with an options page and allows you to change the header graphic from the backend.

Oceanic Flight

Oceanic Flight comes to us from JB WEBDEV. It sports two widgetized sidebars, horizontal navigation above the header image and a large search box in the header area. The theme comes in a wide-screen format with its main colours being white, gray and a soothing off-brown. It is easily customizable.

NaturalPaper

NaturalPaper is the latest offering from the gang at DynamicWP. The theme has a sort of paper and wood feel to it. It comes with a widgetized sidebar including a tabber section to display your most popular posts, latest posts and comments. It has a horizontal menu above the header area to display pages and another below the header area for categories, including a drop down menu for sub-categories. From the theme’s options page you can change the default Gravatar image, exclude pages/categories from the nav menus, include your Twitter & RSS links and turn off/on the TimThumb script.

Technicolor

Technicolor is an elegant looking dark theme from WordPress Theme Designer. Although it is aimed at video bloggers, this theme can easily be used for regular blogs. It comes with a widgetized sidebar and footer and features a video showcase displayed on the home page which can be controlled from the theme’s options page.

BrownishOrange

BrownishOrange is, you guessed it, a brown and orange coloured theme. It is the latest release from the stable of BloggingInside who has been turning out quite a few themes if you have been paying attention to our forums. It’s appearance is quite soothing and comes with three widgetized areas: a content block above the main content area, the sidebar and another content block directly below the main content area.

FunkyZine

2 Columns, Wood Design, Rounded Corners, Dark, Banner Ad Ready, Tested on WordPress 2.5, Fixed Width, PSD logo Attached.

We try to keep abreast with both plugin and theme releases. The first place that we look for releases is the WLTC News Forum and in this post I’ll try to cover some of the points that you should keep in mind to facilitate your listing.

1. Post in the appropriate category

The forum has been divided into several categories for different content. The two primary categories that you should be looking at are the New WordPress Plugins category and the New WordPress Themes category for plugins and themes respectively. We also have a Premium WordPress Themes category for those themes which require payment to use.

2. Writing your post

This is the most important part of the process. Remember that the key to attracting a user to visit your plugin or theme page is a good detailed description. I, for one, would like to gather as much information about the plugin or theme from the post. Browsing to your site and then making a search for the right post / page is a big big no no!

Plugin Authors should ensure the following is present in the post.

1. Plugin Name: short forms are OK, however the full form of the name is ideal
2. Plugin URL: This should be the direct url to the plugin page and not your site. Ideally keep a separate page for each plugin. It provides for a single interface to interact with users, as well helps in SEO.
3. Description: Let me iterate; provide a detailed description. Mention what exactly your plugin does. Elaborate on some of the features that the plugin has. Ask for suggestions. State what plans you have for the future of the plugin. Optionally, add information on installing and using the plugin. This information should also be present on the plugin page on your site.
4. License

Theme Authors should ensure the following is present in the post.

1. Theme Name: same rule to follow as that of plugin authors above
2. Theme URL: Once again, link to the url of the theme page. Putting several themes on a single page only serves as a distraction to a person looking for that specific theme.
3. Description: A detailed description for the theme should come here. Mention if your theme is widget ready, or if supports gravatars. Does it have an options page? Is it a one, two or three column theme? What colors is it available in? Is the header customizable?
4. Demo URL: Every theme should have a demo for a user to see what their site will look like. It is a pain to download and install a theme to check if it looks good, only to find that this is not the case.
5. Screenshot: This is optional but again highly recommended. A screenshot is the first view that a potential user sees.
6. License

The points I have made above are not just pertaining to our News forum. In fact this should something that you should follow strictly whenever you are looking to get listed at any site announcing releases.

3. Other methods to inform us about your release

The News forum is the preferred method to bring your creation to our attention. Not only does it bring your theme / plugin to our attention but it also ensures that you reach out to our regular readers even before our daily release posts.

You could also use the contact form to inform us about the release. However, this is a much slower method to get listed. Remember to provide as many details as you would if you were to make a post in the News forum. Also, change the Subject line to Plugin Release: your theme/plugin name.

Smashing Magazine has published an article which highlights at least 20 free WordPress themes to choose from. Some of these themes look as if they could almost be considered premium but they are still free. My personal favorite is 5ThirtyOne while Probama comes in second. Although I’m a little bummed that the article didn’t feature Justin Tadlocks Options theme. I feel that it would have been a nice addition to the post.

At any rate, make sure you read each themes license agreement as they can vary from theme to theme. This is especially true when it comes to using the theme in a commercial environment.
