New Developer Portal

A few days ago, Matt Mullenweg posed a question on the WordPress Hackers Mailing list regarding a new developer portal.
If there were to be a developer portal for WordPress, someplace where if you’re first getting started with hacking on WP, building plugins, creating themes, you could go and it’d have all the best resources in one place, what resources do you think would be important to have there?
I encourage you to read the thread through the mailing list archive and voice your thoughts, ideas or suggestions. Alternatively, you can leave a comment on this post since I know Matt routinely checks out the feedback.

The Geekier Side Of WordPress 2.9

If you’re a developer and need to know some of the geekier bits coming down the pipe in WordPress 2.9, Joost De Valks article should fit the bill. In it, he lists a number of things that developers should pay attention to such as enhancements to wp_query, upgraded TinyMCE editor, performance updates to the options table and much more.
WordPress 2.9 is currently at beta 1 stage. If you are one of the beta testers for 2.9, let me know how it’s gone for you so far.

Wanted: Women WordPress Developers

Jane Wells recently put the call out to the WordPress Professionals mailing list asking for recommendations for Women WordPress developers. That is, those who develop plugins or patches for WordPress, not bloggers. Personally, when I think of women involved with WordPress, I think of Lorelle VanFossen, Lisa Sabin Wilson, and a few others. Other than Lisa who develops themes, I can’t think of any women off the top of my head that contributes routinely to the development of WordPress or plugins.
If you are a female WordPress developer and you live on the West Coast, preferably around San Francisco, CA get in contact with Jane Wells as soon as possible. You may end up with the opportunity to present at WordCamp San Francisco.
