November is quickly turning into one of the biggest months for WordCamps this year. WordCamp Philly has already passed, and it will be followed by WordCamp Caguas, WordCamp Kenya, WordCamp Detroit, WordCamp Richmond, and WordCamp Denmark all starting on the same day (Nov. 12)! Closing out the month, we have WordCamp Azerbaijan (Nov. 13), WordCamp Edmonton (Nov. 18), WordCamp Omaha (Nov. 18), WordCamp Singapore (Nov. 19), WordCamp Paris (Nov. 25), WordCamp Madrid (Nov. 26), and WordCamp Tokyo (Nov. 27). Counting Philly Philly, Toronto, and Gold Coast, that’s 13 15 WordCamps in the span of a month, almost exactly 1 WordCamp every 2 days! This is really a testament to the growth of WordPress since the first WordCamp launched in 2006. After November closes out, there 4 more in December to finish the year. Are you planning to attend any WordCamps before the year is out? Update: WordCamp Toronto and WordCamp Gold Coast also occurred the same day as WordCamp Philly, bringing this [...]

WordCamp San Francisco is often heralded as the largest WordCamp and sometimes considered to be more of an annual WordPress convention, and there are certainly a ton of people attending this year. If you’re one of the many joining in, an impressive list of speakers, and a program for all three days have been posted. There will be plenty to do this year, and if you’re a plugin developer, you may want to take advantage of the Plugin Security Showdown while you still can. Tickets are mostly sold out, but there do seem to be a few microsponsorship tickets available, and walk-in ticket purchases will be welcome until occupancy is reached. If you can’t make it out to San Francisco this year, there are plenty of WordCamps happening soon elsewhere, including Los Angeles and Salt Lake City.

WordCamp San Francisco, “the official annual conference of the WordPress open source project” and heralded by many as the largest annual gathering of WordPressians, is putting out the call for speakers for the 2011 convention. This year’s WordCamp SF will be held at the Mission Bay Conference Center from August 12th – 14th, and they are “expanding the programming for publishers, bloggers, and developers.” I’ll definitely be there this year. How about you?

WordCamps are great events. It’s where users of WordPress that are local to the area can all get together in one place to share tips, talk strategy, and share knowledge with each other. However, putting these events together takes time and an incredible amount of hard work, as shown by Steve Bruner’s post on the WCNYC blog: When you have 70+ speakers and volunteers working for gratis, you start out $2,500 in the hole. And when attendees started registering like crazy, it really was a double-edged sword. While registration was beginning to reflect the fruits of our labor, and the hype was building, my little budget spreadsheet was blinking red with every registration. I was laying out money for shirts, bags and food, and the sponsors weren’t showing up For those that are willing to go through all of the trouble of putting a WordCamp together, I salute you!

If you’re looking for a cool way to keep tabs on what’s shaking at WordCamp New York this weekend, check out this site created by DimensionMedia called IWishIWasAtWordCamp.com. The site contains feeds from a few notable Twitter accounts that will be tweeting during the event as well as the important hashtag Twitter widget which goes above and beyond single accounts. Near the center of the site is a collection of photos published to Flickr but some of the photos are from the wrong WordCamp. This should be fixed by only aggregating photos that are using a unique tag such as the event Twitter hashtag. Near the bottom are even more Twitter accounts. The only bad thing about this page is that asides from the hashtag widget at the top, the rest of the page requires refreshing in order to see new information. Hopefully, Dimension has a decent server to put [...]

This weekend will be packed with WordCamp goodness starting with WordCamp Phoenix on Friday the 13th and WordCamp New York on Saturday the 14th as well as Sunday the 15th, both of which still have tickets available. However, if you can not make it to WordCamp Phoenix, the great news is that it will be live video streamed in its entirety thanks to their sponsorship with GoDaddy. Simply point your browsers to their Live Video page and the event will be streamed starting at 9AM Mountain time. Also check out the schedule of events in case you only want to tune in during a certain session. Because of a lack of WiFi and bandwidth at WordCamp New York, there will be no live audio or video streams. *UPDATE* Just found out that WordCamp Victoria in Canada is also this weekend.
