I’m amazed that google notebook hasn’t been mentioned yet. I wouldn’t like at Instapaper simply because it is a “new” account I don’t need. Google does tons of things well, and their “notebook” does all this and more. You can just highlight anything on a page from text to a pic and “send to notebook” and it does that and preserves the page title and link. You can send from there to google bookmarks or google docs, or email to yourself, share with someone, and more.

Hey guys,

there is an awesome Firefox plugin available, just for this purpose. Before that I had a bookmark folder in Firefox for read later, but the Firefox extension “read it later” is perfect. Try it out and you will love it.

It is also able to synchronize between different computers. No need to open bookmarks or other web pages.

I prefer to bookmark a site. Most of the time the URL is even more important than the content itself. I like to share some of these URLs with my readers.

I agree with Todd. When I’m out prowling around in cyberspace and see something of interest I’ll just stick it in a Firefox folder for future use.

Some of the social bookmarking sites I find useful, at least the sites where you can see what others have bookmarked. I have found some cool things that way but I don’t see any benefit in using Instapaper.

I like exploring these types of apps, so thanks for the heads-up. I started poking around and found listmixer.com also a similar ditty. I like the simplicity of Ctrl-D too (Props to Tadd). Gotta love keyboard shortcuts.

I am giving it a try.
Amazingly enough, I find the service is useful.
It takes less time then del.icio.us, and I find firefox bookmarks to be less friendly.
I’ll try and see.

I agree that it seems superfluous since like most people I already have a system for reading stuff later, however, I did register and will give it a try for using with my iPhone when I’m traveling and it’s not convenient to get my laptop out. That’s about the only scenario that I can see where it might be somewhat useful…..we’ll see….

I also wouldn’t use this. I use del.icio.us, when I come across a page or document that I would like to read in detail later, I just tag it “readlater” (plus any other relevant tags). Every once in a while I go through my “readlater” tag and, as I look at each one, remove that tag.

I have been doing this for a while now, and the other day I came across a Firefox extension that supports the exact same workflow (Readeroo, https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4912), so I guess I’m not the only one

So while I see the usefulness of the service offered by Instapaper, I don’t see the point of using yet another bookmarking service.

I wouldn’t use this. I probably won’t recommend it either. I don’t see the utility of it. If you want to “read it later” leave the tab open.

The only time I’d want to “read it later” is if it’s quite long. Quick stuff is quick — read it and get it done. And I don’t want to read “long” things on a mobile or something, so i’d just bookmark or leave it open.

ctrl+d works well enough for me .. I don’t know why I would use a 3rd party service … I just save things I want to look at later in a “for later” folder in my bookmarks and we’re good. Maybe I’m missing the real genius of this product … but ultimately, what’s the point?
