as i have mentioned in my blog, it seems every other blogger out there is making money teaching other bloggers how to make money and there are more blogs on blog monetization than all the bloggers in the world!

Whoa! Being that a blog is an online diary, I never even considered making money from it. That's a bit like selling your diary. I'm not even sure how you'd make money. Ads? I think ads are so ugly and wouldn't dream of messing up my blog with them (in fact, I pay my host so that they won't put their ads on it; I'm very much anti-ad).

Well, good luck to all the successful bloggers. The successful blogs tend to not interest me, though. It's the tiny, obscure Blogger blogs that I return to time and time again, personally.

The first thing that people need to know is that the life of a professional blogger is not very much about writing. People often say "But... You don't write very much?" when I tell them about my job. And I don't. Writing takes up very little time compared to other tasks, and in many ways a blogger is more of a salesman than a writer. Not to mention the amount of patience and time needed, as others have commented.

But it is a lovely job, which brings lots of experiences and adventures!

[...] On April this year I carried out the Thousand Dollar Experiment and successfully reached RM1100 in a month. Of course that was cheating a little as it was in Ringgit Malaysia not in actual US Dollars. Still it was a happy result which proves making money online isn’t all that difficult.
Wow! - You said it "making people want to come back for more everyday" - what a challenge for all of us. I just printed that quote on my monitor. Thanks for the words of wisdom - I just got super motivated.

Success doesn't happen over night neither. It's amazing how many people create a blog and think, and think it's 'easy money'

It took me a good two years to get people noticing my blog

I worked a little while at a dog daycare place here in Seattle. One of the dogs had a Google leash hanging up, so I asked his owner when they came in what he did at Google and he said "advertising". To which I responded that I get a check in the mail every month from them. He laughed sort of derisively and said, "Free money, right?"

But it's like, not really. Not really at all. I get only a measly sum compared to what Google makes off the work that I do. I actually wrote to them about this and received a form letter reply, because I think it reflects extremely poorly on their attitude towards people who are providing them with FREE CONTENT to make money off of.

It makes me think there must be a better system to protect content producers, perhaps by taking sovereignty over the data patterns and derivatives that we produce. Because the way things are set up right now just isn't working well enough.

I agree that it takes a lot of hard work - and writing is just part of it! All the research is really astounding, which makes me have to agree with the obssessive/eccentric part (I might say flat-out crazy rather than eccentric, though lol). Working 14-hour days? That's nothing, I think I've melded with my computer at this point - WE ARE ONE! lol

You got that right! Anyone can throw a bunch of words together to fill out a blog. However, not everyone can write interesting, compelling, and engaging copy. You can succeed at blogging if you exert yourself on a regular basis.

This is true! I have been starting to monetizing one of my blogs and I spend days working on a single aspect of it. Lots of patience is one requirement for this.

That's surely true lol. They were having such discussion too at Performancing, ie reconsidering blogging as a career.

To have some decent traffic(which might be the way to monetisation, etc) one should really concentrate on a specific niche and provide daily good content on it. And there's 2 thing that might keep someone's time or turning him into an addict to blogging : frequency and good content.

In the end, instead of telling everybody to come and blog, perhaps people should tell them just to read blogs to have your answers, etc.

Thanks for the link too.
