  • Domain Name Thesis

Domain Name Thesis I am deginitely being facetious when I write the title for that link, but Dennis Forbes has put together a definitive article on the state of domain names (especially .com domain names) that I have read to date. There are statistics galore on that article, including obscure information such as number of .com domain names taken from Census common names. Definitely worth a look see. (1)

  • Online FeedReader Comparisons

Online FeedReader Comparisons: Frank Gruber from TechCruch examines the online FeedReader market and puts together a matrix for the comparison. Feedlounge was one of the fastest in the mix. What strikes me the most are the features that he puts on the matrix and how few of the “big players” in the feed market actually support those features beside bloglines and Google reader. There are also a couple of upcoming projects listed including Attensa. (1)

How Not to Email a Blogger: Not only do I find this post funny, something (somewhat) similar happened to me recently. I really want to go into a tirade on rude PR people asking favors of bloggers but without boring everyone to death, I would like to say that at least be decent and learn to take a no for an answer. Really, no means no. [EDIT] Sorry, looks like the link was pulled. (8)

WP-Plugin: Sociable 1comment

Peter has just released v1.2 of his Sociable Plugin.

It fixes a few more bugs to make it compatible with WordPress 1.5 as well as 2.0.

Social bookmarking sites allow websurfers to save, catalog, and share interesting pages they find online.

The Sociable plugin appends links for your readers to use those sites to the end of each of your blog’s posts, increasing your potential audience.

News Feeds of Choice 3comments

Author: Mark Ghosh Category: General

So I am looking to remove some of the items in my news feeds and add new ones. I read a whole bunch of relevant topics along with a whole bunch of unrelated and useless feeds that are interesting to me but not really of any “news” value. In all, I have about three hundred feeds that I try to peruse everyday. I recently started using FeedDemon again and remembered (again!) why I like FeedDemon as much as I did while I beta tested it. I just could not see paying a whole lot for a feed reader but the usability and the control is SO worth it.

I found out that a whole bunch of my daily reads were not being updated anymore or had bad URIs. So I am looking for suggestions. What do you read? (I hope others can benefit from this as well)

WP plugin: Sprint Post 1comment

WP plugin: Sprint Post This plugin makes moblogging from Sprint PCS phones really simple. I had written something like this a couple of years ago. It screen-scrapes the Sprint Picture Mail email,
downloads the picture to the server, and formats a post to display it. For those that have not tried moblogging or blogging pictures from cell phones, it can become quite the habit and really quite cool. I stopped doing this sometime ago, but the original blog still exists at http://mindfulmusings.net/moblog/

Ugly Sites Earn More With Google AdSense? The name of the article caught my attention and sure enough they were talking about Plenty of Fish. That “ugly” dating website has gotten more attention lately (and consequently made more money) for being ugly than for being a dating site. (5)
