Wordpress News 0comments

Author: Mark Ghosh Category: General

What would you think of a simpler news submission mechanism (e.g. a highly hacked BBPress) that would let you submit your own Wordpress/blogging news to WeblogToolsCollection without too much trouble?

The posts show in the sidebar (original sidebar code from Photomatt), users are able to post their comments on news, support is STILL provided (and should be sought) at the Wordpress forums and I will pick and choose interesting tidbits to display on the front page.

Please register yourself on the News page and post all your new items through there. This new development is to alleviate the problem of people having to wait for me to have the time to post their news. I think this will increase productivity but time will tell.

WP Theme: Connections Reloaded 1.2.2 released 1comment

Connections Reloaded 1.2.2 is now out.

It comes with a few fixes and changes as follows:

  • Fixed a bug that caused comments on password protected posts to remain hidden even after entering the password. File modified: comments.php
  • Replaced Google Reader with Add to Google button under Subscriptions. File Modified: sidebar.php
  • Removed code of a plugin from index.php. It wouldn’t cause your site to break, but it wasn’t required.
  • Removed all target="_blank" attributes from the code files.
  • Footer text modified. File Modified: footer.php
  • Removed Firefox button from the sidebar.

WP Plugin: Open Mic Friday This plugin temporarily promotes all users to Contributor role for the day specified (Friday in my case) every week. It remembers the assigned role and reverts all affected users back to their original levels after the day is over. (0)

  • Ning

Ningall you need is a good idea to run your own social application. Social apps let you match, transact, and communicate with other people. A few clicks, no coding (unless you want to), and you can be up and running with your own social app in minutes. Interesting. Thanks Pedro Vera (2)

  • Variables in your CSS via PHP

Variables in your CSS via PHP: Good writeup/tutorial on using PHP to control the way your page looks. I love the way Chris writes, but this article is even more poignant as it also talks very candidly about OOP in php (which is sorely lacking in larger percentage of all PHP code) (0)

  • FeedBurner introduces interactive RSS

FeedBurner introduces interactive RSS with a good writeup (and via) here. I cannot help but stop and think how this will jive with the fact that feeds will have to change along with presently published content, thus forcing readers to view old content (with slightly modified matter) as new content. For example, if the number of comments on a post change, that might not be enough for many people to have to download that content again. If that is not the case, then is the content truly dynamic/interactive beside being simple links? (3)
  • Closed, Open Source Share Compatibility Problems

Closed, Open Source Share Compatibility Problems: Interesting take on the compatibility problems brought onto Wordpress by the latest versions of Mysql running in “strict” mode as default. Especially poignant here because I see well greased programmers moving to the postgresql model because of a shift of ideologies of the mysql group. I should look into the added benefits that the strict model provides to the system. (2)
