I only have a work computer, and I NEED itunes. Whenever i try and download it, it says that i do not have authority to acces or something like that. Is there any way I can get around this to get itunes back in my life? Thanks

I don't yet know what causes the problem, but I have found that with XP and multiple users that occasionally the permissions get messed up. To fix the HKLM issue - use regedit, navigate to the key and you'll probably get a warning message about permissions. You need to right click, select permissions and then take ownership of the key (assign ownership to Administrators for example) then click OK (ignore any warnings) until the dialogue boxes are closed. Go back in to the permissions and adjust as required. You may need to refresh the key list after changing permission and apply permissions to each subkey... Good luck.

I bought an IPod to check out what all the fuss was about. I hate the wheel. Took forever to get music working properly. iTunes is crap. Still can't get videos to work properly. No sound. For MP3s my cheap USB players made in China or where-ever have been working fine for years and still is more convenient. I prefer PSP for watching videos and playing games when travelling. My Sony Ericsson phone is great and so is any notebook I've used. I don't care about Macs, Windows and Linux, have used them all and as long as they work. Next to CD-ROMs that end up wasting tons of CDs, adware, spyware and viruses, IT hypers, Free And Open Source (FOSS) evangelists that are actually communists selling proprietary software ... the iPod is the worst abuse of technology I've come across.

To remove Itunes from a windows based PC Add/remove does NOT work!
The program is installed using the new windows installer and you need this program to remove itunes from your quicktime/itunes combo install (msicuu2.exe).
Install it then find it in programs then click it, you will find itunes and quicktime in the list.
I would recommend installing this permanently since many other programs are starting to use the NEW windows installer to jack their programs into your PC without the ability to remove them easily.
This is the only reliable way to remove Itunes with 0 hassle.
The quicktime and realplayer alternatives are nice but can't play some of the newer QT and RP files coming out.

The link to a standalone version of Quicktime is on the exact same page as the link to download iTunes/Quicktime. No "runaround" or "search" needed.

Charlie, You may have already figured this out by now, but I will share it anyway. You can download audio files, but it takes a couple of extra steps. Right click on the download link. Choose "save target as." Then when the save menu comes us, save it not as an "mpeg document" which is default, but as "all files." Add .mp3 as an extension at the end of the file name, and it will save on your computer as an mp3 file, and you can immediately use it.

When I uninstall itunes from Add/Remove Programs, it goes through the whole process. Makes you think it is uninstalling it. What a load of crap. It doesn't do anything. Itunes is still installed and fully functional. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

My concern with using QuickTime Alternative is how secure is it? QT does usually fairly well in keeping ontop of vulnerabilities. But does anyone know how secure the alternative is please?

I have had major problems with the itunes+quicktime download. The first time i downloaded it it installed fine, but then i did a system restore and now no matter how many times i reinstall or download a new file, itunes won't execute and quicktime displays an error saying it is not installed properly.
