Jan Weiß has translated the WordPress Backup/Restore Plugin for WordPress 1.5.x and would like to offer it as a download. He has also included a german .po file for the backup plugin. All of the features remain the same and there is nothing new in terms of backup or restore features. Localized WordPress Backup/Restore Plugin with German Translations

Location Aware Blog tool wins innovation prize The winning software, called OneReach, draws on the current interest in blogging. The tool gives travellers access to blogs specific to the area they are in so they can find useful information and tips. It also creates a map which allows family and friends to follow their exact progress while they are away from home. The tool relies on GPS (Global Positioning System) and requires a smartphone. Business of Blogging, LinkyLoo

Microsoft Recruiting Paid Bloggers Many professional bloggers are already poo-pooing the idea but I am not ready to discount MS yet. Microsoft has failed in the content game before but they do seem to have strong groups of people that “get” blogging and promotion through blogging (ala Channel 9, Scoble etc.). CNET has done a marvellous job at content blogging followed closely by others such as Weblogs Inc and Gawker Media. Persistent Microsoft with fair guidance from their own blogging gurus might just hit the mark this time. I cannot imagine the resources that a Microsoft blogger would have at their disposal and what they could produce with those resources. Thanks Threadwatch PS: I am quite tired of the phrase “get blogging”. Successfull Blogging is about faithful and clever journalistic marketing and not some tech savvy utopian ideal that only certain people are privvy to. Everyone gets blogging and good/useful […]

Comment form in News feed? Russell has been doing it for a while and I am jealous. (not that I was already jealous of Russell) I notice that I comment on his posts a lot more. The comment form, though cumbersome, was quite enticing even on frivolous posts. Since blogging to me is lifeless and unfulfilling without interaction with my readers and since people are very stingy with their comments unless goaded, I am really drawn to the idea of having a comment form on my news feed. I investigated further and found that his feed puts out a tabular comment form that is quite simple. I might have to try it out and see how well this works for my news readers. What do you think? Should blog news feeds have small comment forms embedded into them? (See how I have to goad to get you to say something?)
